Over the weekend the Metal Mulisha Serco Yamaha team battle in a MX war! Luke Clout made it five podiums out of the seven rounds contested at the MX Nationals after the Conondale round of the championship and is now in the history books. His third place finish at Conondale also sees him slightly extend his lead in the MX2 championship as the racing heads towards the business end of the season.
Clout, on his Serco Yamaha YZ250F, logged 4-8-4 finishes in the three motos in a solid, yet unspectacular, day for the series leader. He copped a five second penalty in race one for running off the track but rebounded well to finish fourth. Moto two saw Clout struggle with the freshly watered track to finish eighth while he worked hard for his fourth in the final moto. He increased his lead in the championship by another two points over Hamish Harwood to 16, while Luke Arbon is a further 27 behind Harwood.
“It wasn’t a great day for me. In the end I guess I was fortunate to even be on the podium as the results from most of the riders were so up and down. But I did learn a few things today and some things the team addressed regarding my riding, so with the next round three weeks away and at Raymond Terrace, I think I will be in much better shape.” – Luke Clout
Jay Wilson put in a commendable performance to take home sixth place on his YZ250F. He finished all three races in seventh place and hard to make a charge forward in each of the motos after poor starts. Wilson sits in eighth place in the MX2 championship but only 28 points separates third through eighth on the points table and with three rounds remaining, Wilson is looking to make a big charge for a series podium.
“Today wasn’t too bad, but I think it could have been a lot better if I had got better starts. No one really came from the back to the front and it showed if you were up front early, then it was much easier to stay there than come from the back. But the points are still pretty tight and we still have eight races to go so if I race well at the remaining three rounds them making the points gap up isn’t out of the question.” -Jay Wilson
The Metal Mulisha Serco Yamaha team will now focus on round eight of the MX Nationals to be held at Raymond Terrace in NSW on August 3. Clout will look to build on his lead while Wilson is up for a late season charge.
